Compensation For Negligent Lipotropic Treatments

Legal Advice On Botched Fat Burning Injections

Lipotropic (fat burning) injections are an increasingly popular solution for dealing with stubborn areas of fat which exercise and dieting cannot remove. Lipotropic injections contain 3 amino acids, Choline, Methione and Inositol, along with vitamins including Vitamin B12 and B6. These ingredients work in combination to boost the body's metabolism, assisting the liver in burning calories, and flushing fat out of the body. Lipotropic injections are normally extremely effective, and can be used to target deposits of fat in various areas of the body, including the chin, neck, arms, stomach, thighs and buttocks.

A person will experience increased energy levels following a Lipotropic injection, as the amino acids and vitamins operate in tandem destroying fat. The procedure is cheap, painless and relatively risk-free. There are however a number of potential side effects of which patients, beauty salons and cosmetic clinics need to be aware. A comprehensive medical consultation and assessment must therefore always be carried out on new clients prior to a Lipotropic injection procedure.

Dangers Of Lipotropic Injections

One of the major issues with Lipotropic injections concerns the ingredients contained in each shot. If the Lipotropic formula used is too strong, or if too much is injected, it may boost the metabolism of a patient too far and cause complications. Gastro-intestinal problems may include diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. A more serious side effect may be the onset of inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), caused by the shift in the body's metabolic rate. Patient's with heart conditions will also be at risk of cardiac arrest in these circumstances. While Vitamins B12 and B6 are not normally dangerous, high doses can cause rosacea, an inflammatory and chronic skin condition. Beauty salons and cosmetic clinics must ensure that the Lipotropic injectables they use contain the correct balance of ingredients, and that the injections are not administered in excessive doses. For this reason staff at a salon and clinic must be properly trained, and be competent handling and using Lipotropic injectables.

Heart Problems & Importance Of Medical Consultation

The speed at which the ingredients in Lipotropic injections enter the body is also critically important for a patient's health. If the dosage is too high, or the Lipotropic formula is injected too quickly, the rhythm of the heart may be disturbed, causing heart arrhythmis, also known as irregular heartbeat or palpitations. This can be extremely serious and even life-threatening. The liver and kidneys may also be damaged, and may fail altogether if their regular functions are speeded up and an excessive burden is placed on them. It is therefore essential that salons and clinics question prospective patients regarding previous cardiovascular problems, liver and kidney conditions, as they will not be suitable candidates for Lipotropic injections. Those taking dietary supplements containing the appetite suppressant Phentermine should also stop using them at least two weeks prior to having a Lipotropic injection, as they may otherwise suffer a negative reaction. Medical consultations must therefore be properly carried out at salons and clinics, and a patient must be fully informed of the risks and possible side effects before a Lipotropic injection is administered.

Allergic Reactions To Lipotropic Injections

The possibility of allergic reactions to ingredients contained in Lipotropic injections is another factor that salons and clinics must take into account. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic contained in Lipotropic injectables, and may trigger allergic reactions in a small minority of people. The amino acid Methione also contains sulphur, which may cause a similar negative reaction. Allergic reactions vary widely in their severity. Symptoms include rashes, facial swelling, and breathing difficulties caused by inflamed and obstructed airways. Again, the onus is on the salon or clinic to identify pre-existing allergies in prospective patients to prevent negative reactions. Lack of effective regulation in the UK means that too often treatments such as Lipotropic injections are carried out at clinics and salons by poorly trained, inexperienced, or simply negligent staff. They may fail to conduct a proper medical consultation, or may perform the procedure incompetently. In either case where injury is caused, a patient should seek legal advice and consider a compensation claim against the salon or clinic. Such claims are important in driving up standards across the industry, and preventing similar injuries in the future.
